角字(Kakuji / かくじ / square character) is said to be one of 江戸文字 (Edo moji / えどもじ / Edo characters).
It is used for 印半纏(Shirushibanten / しるしばんてん / happi coat) and 千社札(Senjyafuda / せんじゃふだ / thousand shrine tags) etc.
The design is based on 篆書(tensho / てんしょ / seal script), so it is different from general Kanji.
